Gingerbread Reindeers



Get creative! Turn your gingerbread men upside down & make them into CHRISTMAS REINDEERS!


What you will need:

  • 350g plain flour
  • 1-2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 100g butter or margarine
  • 175g soft light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons golden syrup
  • Gingerbread man cookie cutter
  • White icing sugar, chocolate, red and green food colouring for decorating
  • Water for icing sugar
Directions:
  • Turn oven on to 190 degrees C /Gas 5.
  • Put the flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and rub in the butter.
  • Add sugar and stir in the syrup and egg to make a firm dough.
  • Roll out the dough to about 5mm thick and cut out your gingerbread men.
  • Put the shapes onto greased baking trays, spacing them out as they will spread.
  • Bake for 10 to 15 mins until golden brown.
  • Leave to firm up for a couple of minutes on the baking tray before placing on a wire rack to cool.
  • Once cooled, make up some white icing and divide into 3 bowls - leave one batch plain white, add red food colouring to the second batch and green food colouring to the third batch. Melt the chocolate.
  • Turn your gingerbread men biscuits upside down to decorate and transform them into reindeers! Use the picture above as a guide.
